The map above shows how dances emerge from historical migrations of people and how dances themselves migrate as people move.
As dances are transmitted from teacher to student, from performers to the community, cross cultural knowledge of the "music, movement, language, dramatic enactment, visual arts, symbolism, philosophy, religion, cosmology, cosmogony, science, spirituality, technology, customs and institutions" is communicated between cultures from different places.
